Brand South Africa CEO Miller Matola says: “Our children are our nation’s greatest resource. We must all do whatever we can to ensure our children are nourished, educated and safe.“International research has shown that a nation’s growth and competitiveness are influenced by the development of its young citizens since they are the future adults. If children do not receive the necessary nutrition, their physical and mental growth is stunted. If children do not get the required education, they cannot gain the skills to ensure South Africa remains competitive with sustainable economic growth.”“This Women’s Day we call on South Africans to play their part to ensure our children, and particularly our girl children, stay in school. Educated girl children grow into adults who make different choices about their lives and their families are healthier when they have them. They are able to contribute to a nation’s economic growth in various areas. Therefore we should each make the development of our girl children a priority.“Our efforts will be a fitting tribute to the women who braved an inhumane and brutal system of oppression to march to the Union Buildings in 1956. It will do the memory of warriors like Charlotte Maxeke – the first South African black woman to hold a degree – proud if each of us plays a part in nourishing our children, and particularly our girl children, physically and mentally. Each of us can thereby play a part in driving our nation’s development,” concluded Matola.Note to EditorsBrand South Africa is the official marketing agency of South Africa, with a mandate to build the country’s brand reputation, in order to improve its global competitiveness abroad. Dear Editor,As a Wilmington senior citizen who watches the Selectmen meetings weekly, I would like to offer my strong support and endorsement for Greg Bendel. He was elected to the Board of Selectmen three years ago and has shown by his action, knowledge, and deep concern for ALL of the residents of Wilmington. As an educator and coach, he is well aware of the needs of our children. Having served on the Wilmington Housing Authority, he is concerned and motivated to help our citizens. Raising a young family in Wilmington, he is aware of all the problems we share and all the great things Wilmington has to offer.Greg is available and makes it a priority to attend as many of the meetings and functions around town, knowing first hand of the wants and needs of the people. Along with Kevin Caira, who was elected to the Board three years ago and serves as Chairman this year, they have conducted the meetings in a very open, caring and transparent way.During public comments, Mr. Caira, in my opinion, is very generous, allowing everyone to speak and handles the sometimes unreasonable behavior with courtesy, civility, and patience. Mr. Caira has been involved in so many activities and volunteering in our town, including coaching Little League and Wilmington High School football and softball. And there are so many others. He was Vice Chairman of the Yentile Famr Recreational Development Committee, founding member and Vice President of the Wildcat Alumni and Friends Association member, and former Lodge President of the Wilmington Sons of Italy. (Also Past President and current National President of the Sons of Italy’s Committee for Social Justice.) And many more achievements for both Kevin and Greg to mention here. Both of these gentlemen are serving for the right reasons… and that is for you, for me, and for ALL of the townspeople of Wilmington.I would ask you to join me on April 27 and vote for Greg Bendel and Kevin Caira. Please know how very important your vote is.Thank you,Marilyn CoxLike Wilmington Apple on Facebook. .Senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Monday urged the government to amend the constitution to insert the provision of an election-time government.”The prime minister has recently said an election-time government will be in place, but there’s no existence of such administration in the constitution,” he said.Speaking at a discussion, he further said, “If you (PM) accept the election-time government system, you can amend the constitution to incorporate the provision since parliament is in function, and you have two-thirds majority to do that.”Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said a non-party neutral election-time government system is crucial to include in the constitution to hold a fair and credible election and empower people to elect their representatives. He warned that their party together with people will take to the streets to realise their demand if the government does not take step for arranging the polls under the non-party government.Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 82nd birth anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. In her recent address to the nation, prime minister Sheikh Hasina said an election-time government will be formed as per the constitution which will provide all-out cooperation to the election commission in conducting the next election.Reacting to her comments, BNP leaders have been saying that there is a provision in the current constitution to constitute an election-time government.About Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that BNP’s stance on the election-time government is not clear, Mosharraf said, “There’s no ambiguity in our demand as we’ve clearly said the election-time government must be neural one, no matter what its name may be.”He said the non-party government will only assist the election commission to hold a fair and impartial election. The BNP leader alleged that the government is rather trying to mislead people over the polls-time administration issue.Mosharraf said they will go to people to drum up their support once their chairperson unveils the framework on the election-time government.
