Fire managers with the Division of Forestry are working collaboratively with refuge personnel to manage the fire to reduce future wildland fire hazards and enhance wildlife habitat. The fire is located in an area where no values are threatened or where the likelihood of fire impact to values has been mitigated. Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享As fire managers continue to monitor the Swan Lake Fire, the Pioneer Peak Hotshots and Gannett Glacier Fire Crews are on standby and ready to assist with the 6,951 acre fire north of Sterling when necessary.Aerial photo taken 6/13/19The Fire was estimated at 6,951 acres after a reconnaissance flight Wednesday evening, nearly doubling in size since the previous estimate the night before. Miller: “We did this to minimize the amount of folks that are back there, we had some sightseers going back there to get a closer look. We also want to make sure that any of the firefighters traveling back and forth have a safer route.” Steve Miller with the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge: “We are still just monitoring the fire. What we do now have is a crew that if we do determine that we need to do some suppression activities we can, we have not actively suppressed this fire at all, but we have people setup. Right now it is moving in the best possible direction it can move. The crews are just in case it moves towards one of the existing fire breaks we can either burn off an existing fire break and stop it from heading in a certain direction. We just now have a crew in place to do that.” Questions or requests for copies of the closure order or maps should be directed to the Refuge at (907) 262-7021. People with recreational-related questions should contact the Refuge visitor center at (907) 260-2820. The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has closed the Mystery Creek Road, East Fork Moose River and Enstar Pipeline right-of-way which are north of the Sterling Highway along the eastern edge of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. The closure will remain in effect through July 11. Most of the new growth was to the northwest and northeast away from the Sterling highway and 5 ½ miles from the community of Sterling. Sarah Saarloos, with the Division of Forestry: “It continues to burn in that limited protection area of the refuge. The fire burned West into that 2017 East Fork Fire star, so there was movement to the northwest and northeast, similar to the pattern we saw yesterday. We didn’t see any movement South towards the highway so it’s still 2.7 miles North of the Sterling Highway.” The Sterling Highway visibility warning is still in effect around Mile 68 and 75. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution driving through the fire area due to heavy smoke.

But automakers have yet to add a personal twist that also weaponizes the system — that is, until a Toyota patent application surfaced.A recently published patent application from Toyota describes, quite simply, a “vehicle fragrance dispenser system.” As the application notes, this system goes above and beyond the current systems by adding a personal twist. It can use mobile devices to determine if a specific occupant is entering the vehicle, at which point it can dispense one of multiple perfumes specific to the occupant’s tastes. Current systems only have space for one fragrance in the system at a time.Enlarge ImageEven your perfume atomizer will be connected to the cloud in this lovely little dystopia we’re building. USPTO But wait, there’s more. Because some people might have problems with specific fragrances, the system also includes a deodorizer. It can deploy as soon as the occupant leaves the vehicle, returning the car’s scent to neutral as it awaits the next occupant, who might not like the last guy’s preference for fresh pine or whatever. The system can also dispense fragrances ahead of a person entering the car, filling the car with scent instead of forcing the occupant to wait for the HVAC system to do its thing, like current applications. So what about the tear gas? Here’s where it gets clever. Since the system is built to detect the occupants, if it detects an “illegitimate engine start,” as the application says, it can dispense tear gas instead of perfume, likely sending the scofflaw running. Hopefully that deodorizer is capable of removing tear gas from the car, otherwise the actual owner will be in for an eye-opening (and eye-watering) experience later on. Hopefully the trunk has an eye-rinse station.Of course, the beauty of a patent application is that it allows for some wild thinking without necessarily making it to reality. Some automakers routinely apply to patent technologies to beat competitors to the punch. So, while this system might not appear in your next Toyota, it’s good to know that the automaker is thinking about some… unorthodox ways to keep your car safe while also making it smell pretty. 2018 Toyota Century is a Marvel movie star car in waiting 94 Photos Auto Tech Car Industry
Enlarge ImageMmm, wagon. BMW BMW revealed its new 3 Series Wagon on Wednesday, but don’t get your checkbook out just yet. Last we heard, BMW isn’t planning to offer the longroof 3 Series in the United States anymore. And that’s a shame, since this one looks to be a seriously nice package.Up front, the 3 Series Wagon — or Touring, as it’s known in BMW parlance — shares its fascia with the G20-generation 3 Series Sedan. Around back, the wagon’s taillights use a similar design to the sedan’s, and the angular rear glass kinks nicely into the overall shape of the hatch.Speaking of the hatch, all 3 Series Wagons come with an electronically operated tailgate, and you can set how far it opens in the car’s iDrive infotainment system. BMW says the luggage compartment is wider than before, with both a taller and wider loading aperture, making it easier to load cargo. The back seats have a standard 40:20:40 split, and can be folded flat. Maximum cargo capacity is 53 cubic feet, which is about the same as a compact SUV.Enlarge ImageInside, the Touring is the same as any other new 3 Series. BMW A total of seven engines will be offered in Europe. The gas-fed 330i and M340i xDrive variants that we get on the US-spec sedan carry over, and a third, less powerful 320i is also available. On the diesel front, buyers can select engines ranging from 150 to 265 horsepower in output — or more importantly, 320 to 580 pound-feet of torque. For folks who might tow, the base 320i Touring can pull 3,500 pounds, while all other versions can handle 4,000.For front passengers, the 3 Series Touring is identical to the 3 Series Sedan — the design, switchgear and multimedia systems all carry over unchanged. The most robust iDrive 7 setup features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.2-inch central screen, with BMW’s voice-controlled AI assistant on board.BMW says customers will be able to preorder the new 3 Series Touring this month, ahead of its official on-sale date in September. Again, it’s unclear if this shaggin’ wagon will ever be offered in the US, but for now, we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
