Miracle: The Touch That Saved Her Life

first_img“A angel was born one week ago, one that came into this world still and unresponsive. After a mere touch from the palm of my fingers, she yawned and took her first breath of air.”September 1, 2015- the incredible story of a newborn, her mother and how the two are learning to come together has inspired the Daily Observer to highlight the narrative behind this family. The family has asked that their neither names nor location be published.Miracle, as she’s known, was born on September 1, 2015 under strenuous conditions; she is one to two months premature. Her 16-year-old mother Stevenia appeared to be six or seven months pregnant prior to giving birth to Miracle. According to witnesses, Stevenia was unaware that she was in labor that morning. Therefore, Miracle was delivered on a cold ground, alone.“This girl is brave oh,” her aunty Beatrice stated. “When we asked her who the man is that got her pregnant, she can’t talk. Even to tell us that she was in pain, she didn’t tell us. I walked in and saw her straining and helped her remove her pants. I was shocked to see a baby inside them,” A neighbor says that they overheard Beatrice crying for help the morning of Miracle’s birth and decided to assist the bleeding mother and child. According to the neighbor who has also asked to stay anonymous, the moment they entered into the bedroom of Miracle and her mother, they saw what appeared to be a still-born baby lying near her placenta and umbilical cord, lifeless. Two to three feet away from Miracle sat Stevenia, who seemed unacquainted with what had just happened to her body and to the lifeless form in front of her.“I heard that the mother was pregnant but she denied it until her stomach started getting big last month. We were all in doubt until now. When I walked into the room and saw Stevenia sitting up, I asked her what had happened because blood was all around her and her bottom half was naked. In front of her was a baby that came too soon and the mother was terrified of looking at it,” our reporter stated.According to the neighbor, a man no one has yet to identify is said to have sexually molested Stevenia prior to her giving birth. In as much, Stevenia is partially disabled and an orphan, challenges that have caused her to behave reclusively.Since the age of three, Stevenia has been living with her late father’s relatives who have all tried to assist the limping teen. They have been showing support.Meanwhile, at birth, Miracle showed no vital signs, until the neighbor made contact.“After a mere touch from the palm of my fingers, she yawned and took her first breath of air. I tapped her buttocks a couple of times and decided to straighten her umbilical cord that had tangled in her mother’s pants during labor. I noticed that it had a pulse and immediately as I straightened it, Miracle started responding,” she added. At the moment, Stevenia has been trying – learning – to do the motherly things such as breastfeeding, a routine that her aunt Beatrice has to assist in. Most often, Stevenia stays clear of her baby, when asked why, she smiles and shrugs her shoulders.“Presently we keep Miracle in the room wrapped up and heated. We don’t allow anyone to touch her, nor do we bring her outside. The baby doesn’t have anything, she’s everybody’s child since she doesn’t have a father. Thanks to the neighbor who also named the child, Miracle is still living so far,” Beatrice mentioned. In the meantime, it has been a tough week for mother and child. Due to the lack of funds and resources, Miracle has yet to be registered or taken to a hospital for a check up. Stevenia is also in need of medical attention.‘Car pay to carry both mother and child is not available. Secondly, the child is too fragile to move now, so if we had someone to come here and help us look at Miracle, that would be the best thing for us,” stated Beatrice. The family is appealing for immediate help to help keep Miracle alive. They are also in search for food, which they claim the mother’s breast milk may not be suitable for the premature one.Anyone wanting to help or reach out to this family is asked to call the following numbers: 0775886852 or 0777472772. Audi can help you catch the next traffic light in four new

Today, Audi is announcing another four cities in the US, effectively doubling the number of traffic lights that it can monitor here. The TLI system relies on vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications to wirelessly send the timing of a municipality’s traffic lights directly to the car using its integrated LTE connectivity. The car then uses that information to say, if you’re waiting at a red light, how much longer it will stay red. Or, if you’re approaching a “stale” green light that’s about to change, the car can tell you that you’re not going to make it, meaning you might as well just coast to a stop and save both some gas and your brakes. The timers and instructions appear on both Audi’s Virtual Cockpit system and on the heads-up display, if equipped, letting drivers know whether they have time to queue up another playlist before the light turns green, or if they should stop rocking and get ready to roll. The four new cities going live today are Denver, Colorado; White Plains, New York; Gainesville, Florida and Orlando, Florida. That’s a total of 13 cities in the US where the service works, or some 4,700 intersections. If you find yourself commuting through one of those 13, then lucky you, but you will need to pay for the privilege of receiving that sweet metadata. TLI is part of Audi’s Connect Prime services package, which costs $199 for six months or $499 for 18 months. You do, at least, get the first six months free.  Share your voice Tags Auto Tech Audilast_img read more

Xi meets top EU leaders to strengthen ties

first_imgChinese president Xi Jinping speaks flanked by his wife Peng Liyuan (R), French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron, during a state dinner at the Elysee Palace in Paris, France on 25 March. AFP File PhotoThe leaders of China, France, Germany and the EU were set to meet in Paris on Tuesday for “unprecedented” talks on how to improve ties, despite growing jitters over Beijing’s massive investments in Europe. It comes ahead of an EU-China summit in Brussels next month and a day after Chinese president Xi Jinping signed an array of deals with France including a huge aircraft contract. At a glitzy state dinner on Monday evening French president Emmanuel Macron said he hoped to build a “new global governance” with China and would discuss this at the “unprecedented meeting with the German chancellor and the president of the European Commission”.”This is an important gesture that we are making now. It is testament to your deep attachment to China’s cooperation with Europe… and my desire to build a strong Europe,” he told Xi.German chancellor Angela Merkel and EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker will join Xi and Macron at the Elysee Palace to explore “points of convergence” between the two trading giants. On Monday China and France inked a dozen deals on nuclear power, cultural exchanges and clean energy, while Beijing also committed to buy 290 Airbus A320s and 10 A350 airliners from Europe’s Airbus conglomerate. The order, originally for 184 A320s for 13 Chinese airlines, was first announced during Macron’s state visit to China in January 2018.All of the deals, including one on French exports to China of frozen chicken, amount to a total of some $40 billion.Xi’s visit poses a particular challenge for Macron, who wants to deepen EU ties with China while pushing back against Beijing’s growing global clout.Speaking at the Elysee Palace on Monday following talks with Xi, Macron called for a “strong Europe-China partnership”, adding that this must be based on “strong multilateralism” and “fair and balanced” trade.Meanwhile Xi stressed that “a united and prosperous Europe fits in with our vision of a multipolar world”.”China will always back European integration and its development,” he added in a statement to the press.Around 200 guests including the French actor Alain Delon, who is widely known in China, French electronic music composer Jean-Michel Jarre and Chinese actress Gong Li attended the state dinner on Monday.New Silk RoadEarlier on his trip, Xi visited Italy, which became the first G7 state to sign up to China’s vast “New Silk Road” infrastructure project that has sparked unease in the US and the European Union.Macron announced that France and China will cooperate on a number of investment projects in some of the countries involved in the initiative, a massive undertaking to link Asia to Europe.Italy’s participation comes despite misgivings over the huge venture by other European nations wary of China’s growing influence.Xi has insisted the project will be a two-way street of investment and trade. But EU Budget commissioner Gunther Oettinger in a newspaper interview over the weekend expressed “concern that in Italy and other European countries, infrastructure of strategic importance like power networks, high speed rail lines or harbours are no longer in European but in Chinese hands”.Europe’s distrust of Chinese telecom giant Huawei, which is poised to become the dominant player in next-generation 5G mobile technology worldwide, is also emblematic of the increasingly rocky relationship. The US is pressuring European allies not to use Huawei technology, saying it creates a security risk by potentially letting Beijing snoop on sensitive communications.France has so far not ruled out using Huawei technology. As well as addressing commercial cooperation and strategic issues with Xi, Macron has also been urged to deal with the case of Meng Hongwei, the Chinese former head of the France-based Interpol police agency.Meng’s wife has had no news of her husband since his arrest in China nearly six months ago. It emerged Sunday she had written to Macron asking him to bring up his disappearance with Xi.Meng is believed to be facing corruption charges.Despite the many sources of friction, France wants to engage China as a closer partner as Washington becomes more isolationist under Trump’s “America First” policy. For example, Macron may seek more Chinese support for the French-backed G5 Sahel force fighting Islamist extremists in Western Africa, French presidential aides said.last_img read more
