THE DEPARTMENT OF Foreign Affairs says that it hopes to fill the one outstanding ambassadorial vacancy the country has in the coming months. The role of Irish Ambassador to Uganda has been unfilled for a number of months since the previous holder of the office moved to Lisbon.Says a Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson:“Anne Webster was Ireland’s Ambassador to Uganda until August 2013 when she was appointed Ambassador to Portugal. “A Senior Development Specialist (Donal Cronin) with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is currently Chargé d’Affaires in the Irish Embassy in Kampala. He will remain in this role until an ambassador is appointed this summer.”Much has been made in recent days about the length of time the US administration has taken to fill the vacant US Ambassador to Ireland role. That role has been unfilled for 15 months. The Ugandan role will be unfilled for 10 months, if all goes well. However, in case you were dusting off your CV, applicants for the role must all come from within the Department of Foreign Affairs.
